and preventing it from floating when adding the liquid??

Answers:
use a decorative toothpick, like you use in a martini to keep the olive on onion down in the glass. don't use superglue, that would just be stupid.

Two ways:
Put carmel (or another sauce) in the bottom then add the cherry, then the liquid.
OR
Put the cherry on the bottom of a toothpick and place in the bottom, then add the liquid.
Stick it on a toothpick, then stick the toothpick in the cup, then pour the liquid!!
