Why should you not ring out a tea bag when making hot tea?!

Question:

Why should you not ring out a tea bag when making hot tea?

Answers:
you ever drink really dry red wine, that's the tannins, when you overbrew tea, usually by twisting the bag it gets overbrewed, yes cloudy, but that overbrewing causes that tannin like taste that makes the tea bitter and leaves a very dry feeling on your pallete, the cloudiness is just an indication that it will taste bad in addition to looking cloudy

in my experience, ringing it out makes it bitter. just steep the tea.

plus, you run the risk of busting the bag... and bits of leaf are never good.

It will make your tea cloudy!

it makes your tea cloudy

According to a friend of mine who works at Twining's Tea Company, you should never wring out the bag because it makes the tea more bitter. Steeping the tea for 3-5 minutes is enough.

Also, in the UK the act of wringing out the tea bag during high tea is considered bad taste. It would be like reaching for something without saying "please pass the whatever."

Enjoy a "cuppa" for me!

Interesting. I'm not a frequent tea drinker, but when I have drank it, throughout my whole life I've rung out the teabag. Usually doing so by forcefully pressing it against a spoon. I've always presumed that tea was naturally somewhat bitter in flavor because of this. Guess I will just steep the teabag from now on.

I have also heard that it makes the tea bitter and if you are using it for iced tea, it can make it cloudy.

Hope this helps! ~-~

I usually don't squeeze the tea bag when the tea is done steeping, but I don't think a "little" squeeze won't hurt the taste. A cup of tea is between 8 and 12 ounces which isn't that much volume. If you wring out a tea bag, then you will have affected the real concentration of the tea. good luck.
