Expire dates!?!

Question:

Expire dates!?

ok, this may sound stupid but i bought slicebreads two weeks ago and now it says the "best if used by" date was a week ago. I can not afford to go shopping right now (store far away, expinsive gas price) so is it okay to eat an expired (outdated) bread?

Answers:
First of all put any bread you won't use right away in the freezer and you can though out that best by date. ( it will last a long time if the temperature is maintained at 0 degrees)
Second of all those best by dates are put on product to give you the best quality from the first day to the best by date--- that does not mean the bread is not good after that date only that it MAY lack some of the best qualities like texture, flavor, color or nutrition.

Do you see mold on it? As long as it looks & smells okay, go ahead & eat it. :)

yes the only reson the put the date is because they can't sell in past that date because it wouldn't be considerd "fresh" as long as there isan't any furballs growing on it or as hard as a rock then there isan't a heath issue

Usually it is okay for 7 days past the best if used by date for sliced bread. Two weeks is a bit long. I would recommend not consuming it.

If you really have to, take a whif to see if it's got a sour smell, if not, inspect both sides of the bread to make sure there are no mold, then toast the bread in toaster or toaster oven before consuming it.

as long as you think that the bread smells OK and it tasty you can eat it. I usually put my loaves of bread in the freezer so they last longer. and take them out when I am ready to use them I so not look at the expiration dates unless I am trying to buy a fresh loaf.
