Answers:
Here's a recent article about why artificial sweeteners taste bad -

Scientists claim that it isn't necessarily the taste of diet soda that consumers dislike, but rather how it feels in the mouth that causes the averse reaction to the soft drink.

Until now, studies have shown that consumers have expressed distaste for the sugar substitutes and artificial sweeteners used in diet soda, such as aspartame, and more recently, Splenda.

The artificial sweeteners like aspartame and NutraSweet are just that artificial they are chemicals. That is why you can not bake with them they break down and become bitter.

Splenda is different it tastes like sugar because it is sugar.
It is made at the molecular level. They take one molecule of sugar and attach it to one molecule of a protein that your body does not recognize. So your body thinks that it is nothing and does not adsorb it. Your body does not think it is food so it passes straight through. Even though it is sugar.
Because it is sugar you can bake with it and it does not become bitter. Just use it like you would sugar. I do find it a bit sweeter than sugar. When I want a cold drink in the summer I make Kool-aid But I mix it with splenda instead of sugar I use about 3/4 of a cup instead of a cup.

As for those soft drinks made from splenda The ones I found are the crush ones and Dr pepper and a root beer I prefer them to the ones with aspartame. I get reports from Health Canada and I have not heard of anything warning about splenda Not yet any way. I hope this helps
