Is their tax on tea?!

Question:

Is their tax on tea?

Answers:
In TX, if it is bought in leaf form, it is considered a food item and non-taxable. If it is bought in a liquid form in a container or served at a restaurant or any place that serves prepared food ready to eat, it is taxable.

Depends on what state you live in. I live in TX and we pay no sales tax on grocery items. I don't think that is the answer you were looking for, but thats the answer I had :)

Not since the Boston Tea-party.

it is a food product and there is no tax on it when you buy it in the store. i am sure there is a tax on the materials imported to make it

not in WA for food items

Tea is considered a food item so no sales tax charged in the state of California. However, if it is bottled ready-to-drink tea, then it is charged a sales tax plus a California Cash Redemption fee on the container.

Sales tax rates in California vary from city or county. See Board of Equalization website for current sales tax rates. Base state sales tax is 7.25% and each city or county may add additional tax.

California Redemption Value (CRV) is 4 cents for containers less than 24 ounces and 8 cents for ones larger than 24 ounces.
