Can Sprite make you dehydrated???!

Question:

Can Sprite make you dehydrated???

I've been drinking a lot of sprite lately... i've noticed that i'm reeeeeeeally thirsty ALL the time! I drink water, iced tea, and sprite like crazy! Those are the only 3 things I drink.... I can't think of anything that would be making me dehydrated apart from the sugar from the sprite. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Answers:
sprite does not have any caffeine in it so it is not a diuretic however the sugar in the soda can cause some dehydration. Any liquid is good for hydration but water is the best. Also try drinking pure fruit juice. If you are drinking a lot of tea the caffeine in the tea could be making you feel more thirsty. If you truly feel you are dehydrated see a doctor. You might want to see one anyway as constant thirst is a sign of some conditions including diabetes.

I heard that all soft-drinks make you dehydrated.

stick to just water.thats all your body needs to quench your thirst.

Yes sprite will make you more dehydrated not more hydrated. The reason for this is because your body needs to use more water to break down the sugar, hence you a more thirsty.

The caffeine, sugar, and chemicals in soft drinks all dehydrate you. People actually think soda helps thrist but only makes it worse. Even diet soda doesn't help.

It's pop of course it makes you dehydrated.

yes. its nothing but carbonated water and sugar .. you should try vault .. its a soda and an energy drink.. but you should drink plenty of water during the day

Yes...all soda is bad for you..drink some water

There is actually a lot of sodium in soda and that is what dehydrates you the most.

Anything carbonated or with alcohol will not hydrate you but dehydrate. The best is to still to water.
Even after having drunk drinks like Sprite or Mountain Dew, I still would need to drink water, otherwise, the feeling of thirst would linger...

I don't think Sprite or similar softdrinks without caffeine could make you dehydrated. The carbonation helps to cool you down and make the softdrink more refreshing, but the sugary taste could still make you thirsty wanting more.

Water is your best choice so drink up and be hydrated.

Also from the Mayo Clinic:

A couple of approaches attempt to approximate water needs for the average, healthy adult living in a temperate climate.

* Replacement approach. The average urine output for adults is 1.5 liters a day. You lose close to an additional liter of water a day through breathing, sweating and bowel movements. Food usually accounts for 20 percent of your total fluid intake, so if you consume 2 liters of water or other beverages a day (a little more than 8 cups) along with your normal diet, you will typically replace the lost fluids.

* Dietary recommendations. The Institute of Medicine advises that men consume roughly 3.0 liters (about 13 cups) of total beverages a day and women consume 2.2 liters (about 9 cups) of total beverages a day
