Why can one drink several cups of coffee and fall asleep so fast?!

Question:

Why can one drink several cups of coffee and fall asleep so fast?

Thought it was a wake up drink.

Answers:
Interesting question.
If coffee has stimulants--beneficial ones--then drinking several cups of coffee stimulates the mind. But when a stimulant of any form wears off, one has two reasons to become "lethargic"--the loss of the stimulant and more-than-usually active behavior while under its influence.
So unless one drinks the coffee too late at night, just as one has alcohol, or does normal athletic activity or eats a heavy meal, one sleeps sooner and more soundly under normative circumstances after having ingested the stimulant.

Some people don't react to the caffeine like that.

I am a big coffee drinker and it doesn't keep me awake either. I guess we just get used to all that caffeine.

well coffee can have different effects on different people...it happens to me too...and make sure its not decaffinated!!!!!!!!!

because you have shaken yourself into exhaustion

i know that i can't. it would keep me up for days at a time. i know others that can drink coffee though and fall fast asleep.

Maybe because I drink de-caf - coke cola keeps me awake

Coffee has no affect on me keeping me awake. If it's late, and I'm tired. I'm falling asleep, no problem.

We need a double shot of starbucks
