Yerba Mate?!

Question:

Yerba Mate?

Has anyone tried it? Is it good for you?

Answers:
I actually have yerba mate right now. It's a little lighter than coffee, but more of a smokey taste.

It tastes kind of weird at first (you get used to it and love it), but it's loaded with nutrients and tastes great after a few cups!

It is slightly less potent than coffee and much gentler on the stomach.
Researchers at Florida International University in Miami have found that yerba mate does contain caffeine, but some people seem to tolerate a mate drink better than coffee or tea. This is expected since mate contains different chemicals (other than caffeine) from tea or coffee.

I have not tried it.

According to an article on WebMD:

The herb yerba mate is a rich source of caffeine. They stimulate the central nervous system, much like coffee does. The caffeine "may be helpful for mental alertness, and possibly for weight loss," says Haggans. But there have not been many studies on the herbs, separate from the effects of caffeine.
