What is happening?

Take a cup of black coffee and stir it until the liquid is moving around in the cup. Pour cold milk into the center of the cup, and you will see that a distinct dimple occurs in the liquid. What is happening?

It's called the Vortex effect. The cream is sucked down into the center of the cup by the swirling motion of the stirred coffee.
