What causes diet coke and mentos to make the gyeser effect?!

Question:

What causes diet coke and mentos to make the gyeser effect?

Answers:
There are several things that make it geyser. It's all of them together that makes it so high. Several of the ingrediants react with the acids in the coke and cause frothing. The most important though is not due to an ingrediant. The carbon dioxide in the coke reacts with the tiny pits in the surface of the mento. This is called nucliazation {not sure on the spelling} This is the same as when you pour the drink over ice. There are so many pits on the mento that the proccess is sped up and the carbon dioxide is forcedout of the bottle causing the geyser effect

its the outer coating of the mento mixed with the sugars in the soda

Its the acid in the coke NOT the sugars that make it do that. It is just reacting to the candies.
