Ever hear of hyper-hydration?!

Question:

Ever hear of hyper-hydration?

Too much of water can be a bad thing, right?

Answers:
I've heard of too much water causing a condition called hypo-natremia, which is too little sodium in your system (i think). That's why people on endurance events don't just drink water, they drink sports drinks and the like to help restore the proper electrolyte balance. In severe cases, this condition can cause death. An example you may have heard is hazing, where people have died from drinking excessive amounts of water in a short period of time while pledging for fraternities.

never happens in real life

Hyper-hydration IS possible, but not likely.

If you're really old, really young or have bad kidneys, then it's dangerous. However, if you're relatively young, and have healthy kidneys, there's little to no change of hyper-hydration.

I recommend drinking at least 10 glasses of water a day.

yes it lead sto death by imbalancing electrolytes

Yes but thats an extreme amount, and not letting it out.
You can even die of water intoxication.

Yes!
Water intoxication is the first sign of hyper-hydration.
It can lead to death.
Many reports have misrepresented hyper-hydration for XTC poisoning.
Too much water can indeed lead to death.

Yeah, they also call it drowning.

they say more than 10 or 12 litres in a very short time... it is probably impossibile for a healthy person to drink that amount of water. it does happen in people with mental compulsive diseases and do not have real control over themselves... i suppose it's advisable to drink whenever you feel thirsty, and not to worry about "too much of water"...

Yes, too much water can kill you. Recently a couple of radio shock-jocks (Seattle, I think) had a contest to see how much water someone could drink. A contestant died and the radio station is being sued. I'm not sure if the DA filed criminal charges or not.

yeah i suppose maybe if you drink to much water in such a short space of time you could flood you kidneys
