Well, to me Dr. Pepper taste the same as it always did. I love the taste of it, it is sooo good!!!!!!

i just don't like anything carbonated, so don't ask me
to me all soda tastes the same,
like sierra mist=sprite=7up
coke=drpepper=pepsi

Since the formula is a trade secret, My guesses are based on the popular ingredients used in the 1870-80s for root beer and other similar beverages:

vanilla
orange oil
cinnamon oil
lemon oil
coriander oil
nutmeg oil
neroli oil
allspice
birch bark
juniper
ginger
wintergreen
hops
burdock root
dandelion root
spikenard
pipsissewa
guaiacum
yellow dock
clover
prickly ash bark
quillaia
yucca

They're a very closely guarded secret, but whatever they are, they taste super yummy! Apparently, the flavors are based on traditional flavors which were available when Dr. Pepper was first introduced.

There are varying stories, but most accounts agree that the name was given to honor Dr. Charles T. Pepper who was said to have concocted the drink. His clerk at the store, Wade Morrison later went to Waco, Texas where he reproduced the drink naming it Dr. Pepper. Some say Morrison created the drink in Texas. After Morrison became the owner of the drug store in Texas, Charles C. Alderton of New York was hired to handle the soda fountain and mixed fruit flavors, finally blending the favorite drink now so popular. Robert Sherman Lazenby (1867-1941) president of DR. Pepper Company for many years is also credited with perfecting the flavor with a blend of 23 fruit flavors. The drink was probably introduced to the public on a regular basis about 1885, was first bottled in 1886. In 1888 it was bottled in Waco, TX by Artesian Manufacturing and Bottling Company. Of course, the Pepper-Masters will not divulge their secret recipe. If they revealed the 23 flavors of Dr. Pepper, no one would need to purchase it.
