Answers:
you shouldn't reuse empty plastic bottles. They are design to be used only once and discarded. The bad taste is caused by plastic particles- all kinds of chemicals getting into your water and that will make you sick, so stay away from it.There are special plastic bottles on the market that you can re-use almost forever like Nalgene bottles.Check stores selling outdoor and camping equipment, you will find them there.

In the states, we have water machines at a lot of stores like WalMart, Costco, etc....

I think it's 25 cents a gallon...

You have to make sure you wash it with very hot water and dishwashing liquid. I hope it's o.k because I will fill up the pop containers as well with water and put back into the refrigerator.

if you are not washing the bottle you can be getting bacteria build up a possibility you can get sick

you should NEVER re-use empty water bottles!!! It's been linked to cancer in women, especially ones left in the car that get heated by the sun. It lets off a chemical that you injest in your water (which is why it tastes funny) That's why they are recyclable. It doesn't matter if it had soda, water, mineral water or anything else.

Before I use my water bottles again, I put them on the top rack of the dishwasher and wash them with the other dishes.

Then you can put tap water in the bottle. What I do is put the tap water in and add a package of Propel to it to give it some flavor. Make sure you shake up your water bottle after putting the Propel in the water.

I have found that the individual Propel packages taste more fresh and flavorful than the bottled Propel. It is also less expensive than the bottle kind.

Hope this helps!

The water may taste weird due to possible bacteria build-up, here's an FAQ on reusing PET bottles:

When consumers choose to refill and reuse convenience-size plastic bottles, should they be concerned about potentially harmful bacteria?
Not if they clean their plastic bottles between uses just as they would other drinking containers. Plastics are by nature extremely sanitary materials, and plastic bottles are no more likely to harbor bacteria than other kinds of packaging or drinking containers. Bacteria thrive in warm, moist environments. Once bacteria have been introduced, virtually any drinking container (coffee mugs, drinking glasses, serving pitchers, etc.) becomes a suitable environment for bacterial growth.

Consumers should clean any drinking container with hot soapy water and dry thoroughly between uses. Bottles specifically designed for extended reuse are often made with wide openings that allow consumers to use cleaning instruments and easily dry them.

I constantly reuse water bottles. I use tap water and just keep refilling the bottles. I fill a jug with tap water and let it sit out a while to let the chemicals evaporate. it tastes great no matter how long the bottle sits on my desk.

It might be your tap water. In some areas of the country, people don't drink tap water without filtering it because it tastes funky in general. You might try running your tap water through a Britta pitcher first.

Another thing to consider is that bacteria grows around the rim of your water bottle from contact with your mouth. While a few days or a week won't hurt, using a disposable water bottle for prolonged periods of time could end up being a health risk for you. Consider going to Walmart or a dollar store for an inexpensive, durable and re-usable water bottle. At my house, we run tap water through a Britta pitcher, then fill up a re-usable water bottle that can be run through the dishwasher at the end of the day. As an added bonus, it will save you a ton of money in the long run.

Try 3 rinses (and hard shakes) of water, then fill with water.

Works for me.

Cholorine in the water will make it taste funky in a couple of hours. Try leaving the cap off for a day or two to let the cholorine escape.

Or buy a gallon jug of water and use that instead of tap water.

If you look on the bottom of any plastic container, it has number in a triangle. If it is 6 or lower its unsafe to drink out of. If its 7 or higher its safe.
