Question:

What is a good way to make a smoothie?

Answers:
Fruit in a blender - use a bit of non-fat milk or vanilla ice cream. The juices from the fruit are usually enough to blend on their own. Mix it up - ex: strawberries & peaches w/orange juice. .

Blender, ice, fruit juice.

go to the 7-11 and fill a cup up

Bananas, Blueberries, Pineapples, and Milk. Blend until smooth

Fruit, ice, sweetener & a very powerful blender.

If you don't have a powerful enough blender, forget it, go buy a smoothie.

Two of the most used are K-Tec & Vitamix

Either will make a solution so thick it won't pour.

Throw a bunch of fruit together in the blender, add a little oj and ice....blend.

google it for loads of recipes

use fruit, particularly strawberrys, ice, and perhaps some milk or cream

OJ
Banana
Frozen Strawberries
Ice (if you wish)
Dump it in a blender & stop when it looks ready to drink.

Vanilla yogurt, fruit (strawberries, banana, pears, peaches etc) and a little milk - blend until smooth. Drink!

Throw together some strawberries, ice, honey, and yogurt in a blender on high for a few min.

yogurt
bananas
little bit of juice
ice
little bit of honey
frozen fruit
fresh fruit
hand ful of frozen veg-fruit over powers them

this is a basic recipe...add different things, b creative, switch it up

Since I don't like orange juice, I just throw ice, strawberries, and bananas together in a blender with apple juice.

get crushed ice, fruit, milk or juice. put it in a blender.

I put about 1 cup of each and a few table spoons of honey and only add rice milk to consistancy you want drink to be...

blend and enjoy!!

A smoothie is a blended beverage made from natural ingredients; usually fruits and juices but sometimes other natural flavors such as chocolate, peanut butter or green tea. Many smoothies use ice or frozen fruit to make them into cold partially frozen beverages. They resemble milkshakes in the sense that they have a thicker consistency than slush drinks, but unlike milkshakes, they are often non-dairy and do not contain ice cream. Smoothies are marketed to health-conscious people, and are often made with vitamin and nutritional supplement mixes. Health food stores on the west coast of the United States began selling pureed fruit drinks as early as the 1950s, with smoothies becoming widely popular in the 1960s. (Brown 2005, p.3)

Stephen Kuhnau, the founder of Smoothie King, claims to have created the original "smoothie" in the late 1960s, and also to have coined the term.[1] He worked as a soda jerk in his teens, serving people milkshakes, but couldn't drink them himself because of his dairy intolerance. As a result of this, and the fact that he suffered from other ailments such as low blood sugar and allergies, he was driven to develop his own non-dairy nutritional concoctions, which became known as "smoothies".[2][3] Today, Smoothie King is the second largest smoothie franchise in the United States.

However, the Waring "Blendor" came out in 1939. Waring cookbooks in the 1940s published recipes for many "smoothees," such as a "banana smoothee" or a "pineapple smoothee." The name "smoothee" or "smoothie" was popularly used by books, magazines, and newspapers for a product made in blenders. Also it is known that the Sunshine Juice Bar on the Pacific Coast Highway in Laguna Beach California sold "Smoothies" as early as 1967 to beachgoers and hippies strolling by along with healthy sandwiches.[4]

Over the past decade, fruit smoothies have become an extremely popular choice, whether it be to replace a full meal, or as a mid-afternoon snack. In some areas in the United States of America, it is not uncommon to find 2-3 smoothie vendors on a single inner city block. Similarly to local cafes, delis and fastfood outlets, fruit smoothie vendors find their success building with the growing loyalty and repeat business of satisfied regular customers. As the fruit smoothie industry grows in popularity, it becomes clear that this is somewhat of a revolution in the world of fastfood and snack-foods. Instead of the morning coffee or cake, more and more people from all walks of life are turning to a daily fruit hit, a trend that has the potential to be enormously beneficial if it continues.

Smoothies are a way to re-introduce and develop healthy eating habits with the younger generation. Fruit smoothies are exciting for children as it gives them an opportunity to take control and create their own fruit smoothie recipes, decide what fruits to include, and play a role in every step of the process.

Many smoothies depend on bananas to give them their thick, creamy texture. Additionally, many recipes for smoothies are found in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine, typically using yogurt and honey as well as fruit. The addition of yogurt gives the smoothie a more milkshake-like texture. Smoothies can also be mixed with soda pop and/or alcohol to make a cocktail.

Smoothies appeal to a wide range of age groups because of their balanced sweetness, fresh fruit flavor, and nutritional value. Most are high in dietary fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants. A common recipe is orange juice, strawberries, and a banana blended until smooth.

2 parts frozen fruit, 1 part cold fruit juice...blend...drink. no ice to water it down...no dairy to add fat.
