Brewing coffee?!

Question:

Brewing coffee?

I always liked the taste of coffee brewed over a stove as compared to the automatic drip coffee makers but right now money is very sparse so I cant buy a perculator. I remember my mother broke her coffee perculater once and she made the coffee on top of the stove using a pot but I dont remember how she done it and sadly she is passed away now so I cant ask her. Does anyone know how to do this?

Answers:
Using a pot on the stove, it sounds like your Mother used the old campfire method. Basically what that means is that she filled the pot with water and let it come to a boil. Now here's where safety comes in. Slowly add the amount of coffee that you would normally use in a percolator and the keyword being slowly. Allow to boil for approximately 5 to 7 minutes and remove from heat and allow the grounds to settle.

Up until my 13th or 14th birthday, the only pot my mom ever used was one of those huge enameled trail coffee pots on a caste iron wood stove. Her method was to fill it with about 3 quarters full of water and let it come to a boil then dump in about two hands full of coffee grounds.

Hope this helps you out and remember safety first.

Don't go there.

A plunger is quite cheap and makes a much better coffee.

Get a small quantity of coffee beans with a low acidity (Honduras, PNG). Have them ground coarsely.

Scald plunger beaker. Spoon in 1 tsp per cup. Turn water off before it boils (v important). Fill beaker and stir. Wait about 3 mins. Push plunger down. Pour into cup with milk, sugar (or not).

The price of beans might put you off but they are the same price or cheaper than instant coffee and you only buy a small quantity at a time.

pick up a strainer and put it a pot of hot water and boil slowly to taste. That worked for me when I couldn't find what I was looking for. Look at so second hand stores alot of times you can find a pot like you want very cheap.
