Children and milk?!

Question:

Children and milk?

Does anyone know the recommended age when it's okay for children to go from full fat milk to semi-skimmed?

Answers:
I think it is just like anything else, when the mom feels ready. If you child is good size and healthy there is no reason to leave them on whole milk. I never had my children on whole milk, they have always has 2% and now that they are 3,4,and 5 I just put them on skim a few months ago.

It is recommended that you give babies cows milk from 1 year, when my daughter went on to cows milk she went straight on to semi skimmed!

around 7 years of age.

Until 2, you can give them full fat milk. My son is a bit skinny, so I continue to give him full fat milk because he needs the calories. He's a picky eater, and as long as your son or daughter is not overweight full fat milk is alright. Generally, one year for cow's milk, around 2 to switch from whole milk to 2 % or whatever you drink.

about 5 yrs old

Its about 5 years - my children were quite big so I changed to semi at about 3 years

cow milk is for baby cows

I don't think they is any hard or fast rules regarding this . I have always given my daughter semi skimmed milk from being a baby . She was quite a chunky baby and my health visitor recommended that I restrict some fats out of her diet or opt for healthy alternatives.

Milk as a drink is not the only food/drink we can offer children for them to receive the calcium they need . My daughter gets her calcium from milk, cheese and yogurts to name only a few. My daughter is 11 and very fit and healthy .

you know i don't think it matters two much unless your kids put on loads of weight ue to it then do semi, but i don't think it's a real issue.

2 years old

You can switch children over to semi skimmed milk from the age of 2.
