Keeping freshly ground coffee fresh?!

Question:

Keeping freshly ground coffee fresh?

my boyfriend and i rarely drink coffee but we keep a coffee press around for when he does want coffee. He likes it better then the coffee maker. the problem is that you have to have specially ground coffee for it, just a different size ground. I usually just buy a small amount at the store and ground it there on the press setting. Is there any way to storre it once it is ground to keep it fresh for when we have company over and i need to make coffee, it doesn't seem to last very long once it is ground, would freezing it work or is there some other way that i can keep it fresh for when i need it?

Answers:
definitely freeze or even refrigerate the coffee- immediately when you buy it. make sure it's in a closed container, too...

Yes, put it in the freezer...it wont actually freeze up but it will keep it very fresh for you.

Hi, you can freeze fresh ground coffee. It will last longer and taste better.

Put the coffee into a jar, to prevent air contact and keep it in a dry and cool place, maybe in fridge but not in freezer.

Yes, You can store fresh gound coffee powder in a air tight container (preferably glass) and store in fridge, not in freezer (ice) section. you can retain freshness and aroma by this method. We are regualar coffee drinkers and use this method to store ground coffee.

Buying coffee unground is best, but if you can't then storing it in an air-tight container, away from direct sunlight in a cool dry place is best. Under those circumstances, it's reasonable to expect your coffee to last a couple of weeks without any significant degradation in taste. Do not store coffee in the freezer - the cold grounds (when exposed to the humid warm air of a house - especially in summer) will allow moisture to condense on the surface, quickly degrading the taste of the coffee. The cold/warm cycle just isn't helping the flavour at all. However, for LONG TERM storage of beans (while you're on vacation, say) the freezer is OK, so long as it's in a proper freezer bag to minimize freezer burn. Hope this helps

It is important not to refrigerate or freeze your daily supply of coffee because contact with moisture will cause it to deteriorate. Instead, store coffee in air-tight glass or ceramic containers and keep it in a convenient, but dark and cool, location. Remember that a cabinet near the oven is often too warm, as is a cabinet on an outside wall of your kitchen if it receives heat from a strong afternoon or summer sun.

The container must be airtight.

Freezing it is definitely the best way to go to preserve the freshness of the ground beans.

We buy ground coffee all the time & we store all teh extra in the freezer. It wont damage it at all & it will really preserve the flavor & aroma of the beans!

I also read somewhere that keeping the coffee in a cold environment retains the components that give it the aroma & flavor, so its definitely true! It really does work too, suz we've been doing it for years with no complaints!

Best of luck! Have a wonderful Sunday!

:o)

store it in an airtight container and place in the freezer

Put fresh ground coffee in the freezer. It will last longer and stay fresh.

Put it in the frezer.it keeps longer and doesn't go stale. I use coffee more regularly than youo so I go thru 2lbs a month. I just put mine in the fridge. It is just as good on the first pot as on the last. Happy brewing.
