Where does caffine come from in sodas??!

Question:

Where does caffine come from in sodas??

I was just wondering, because i got some orange soda and it doesnt say caffine free on the front. But I looked on the ingrediants list and didnt see anything that I recognized as a caffine product. So were does it come from, Do they just not list it or what...

Answers:
Caffeine is a naturally occuring ingredient in cola nuts. Colas and non-colas can have caffeine added as an ingredient. Besides the stimulant effect, caffeine adds a bitter note that is desirable in some sodas.

In any but a coffee or cola beverage, caffeine would be an ingredient. If it isn't on the list, then the soda is caffeine free. Some, like sprite or 7up generally say something like "naturally caffeine free" on their labels. Orange sodas sometimes state caffeine free, sometimes they don't but all the orange sodas I have seen have been free of it.

if it dont say caffine free then its got it. coffee doesnt say it either.

Caffeine replace cocaine in sodas to addict drinkers of the beverage. Therefore, it is added by the manufacturers.

well caffeine is something that is in the chemical ingredients, so it isn't listed in the ingredients. If it doesn't say caffeine free, it most likely has caffeine in it.

They add it as an ingredient - it does not occur naturally in any of the ingredients. So, if they add it, it should be listed as an ingredient, unless they add so little they don't need to list it.

it is added at the plant where the drink is made

Caffeine is also a common ingredient of soft drinks such as cola, originally prepared from kola nuts. Soft drinks typically contain about 10 to 50 milligrams of caffeine per serving. By contrast, energy drinks such as Red Bull contain as much as 80 milligrams of caffeine per serving. The caffeine in these drinks either originates from the ingredients used or is an additive derived from the product of decaffeination or from chemical synthesis.

Caffeine in soda comes from the cola bean. Just like the coffee bean. Any sodas that do not use the cola bean will be caffeine free whether it says so on the front or not. Rule of thumb almost all brown sodas have caffiene. Rootbeer no because it is made from a root.
