Why bottled water have expiration date if its only water?!

Question:

Why bottled water have expiration date if its only water?

Answers:
I asked that question to the Cocoa Cola salesmen (for the store I work for), he said that they put an expiration on water for two reasons. 1. Because the plastic in the bottle will breakdown. And 2. because the water can pick up the plastic flavor and can develop off flavors absorbed through the plastic as the plastic breaks down. You'll notice the "Best by date" is for years.

By the way, I drink bottle water because the tap water in my area is so bad that even filtered it taste like dirt. Hopefully, when the new water-treatment plant comes in, that will change.

Well, that is a good question. I have always thought it was b/c the water will go stagnant. Have you ever tasted really old water? It doesn't taste too good.

Because it will go stagnant and become disease ridden.

"Water is known as the universal solvent. What that means is that it will absorb almost anything. So, even though it's been on earth for millions of years, once you put water in a bottle it's life is limited. Its actually better for you to drink tap water than bottle water because florescent lights, the kind of lights that illuminate every convenience store in the world, help grow bacteria. During the bottling process, there are various processes used to clean up the water including filtration and ozonation. If too much ozone was added, the plastic will leach into the bottles. If too little ozone was added, bacteria can start growing immediately. Awesome!"

Why anybody would pay for bottled water is beyond me. Tap water is so much better and cleaner. Its a FAD that won't let go until people start dying from diseases that you don't even want to know about.

Because the plastics in the bottles can break down into cancer causing agents- and unfortunately, tap water isnt much better for you. Theres just as much bacteria in tap water as in bottled water, but tap water has more flourine, which is very bad for you. so it depends on which risk youre willing to take.
