Why do bottled water companies put on the label "do not refill?"?!
Why do bottled water companies put on the label "do not refill?"?
Answers:
There are a couple problems you face by re-using your bottle.
First, overgrowth of bacteria
Second (and the "biggie"), is if the plastic is exposed to heat. Ex: If you wash your plastic water bottle or your Nalgene in the dish washer. The heat releases "Cytotoxins" into the water when you re-fill it. These cytotoxins attack healthy cells in your body.
After time, all plastic bottles release these toxins even if they're not in direct contact w/ heat. If you are going re-use a water bottle, buy a glass jar and use that.

I'm a hippie, what can I say. I do my research!
So that no one thinks that the replacement water is water that they sold as premium water.
I'm not sure but good question. I do it all the time. Looking forward to the answers.
I don't think it says "Do Not Refill," but instead "No Refills." If this is not the case, sorry, but you might want to recheck the labeling.
It was discovered that refilling plastic bottles is a health risk. Bacteria can grow in there if the bottle is not cleaned between uses.
Potential for bacteria. It is stagnant water and that is a favorite place for bacteria to grow.
Because it's unsanitary. See the attached.
coz reusing the bottle like example you refill a bottle and stores it on your ref then drink it,then do it more again and again, it causes diseases, reusing or refilling the bottles somehow causes the water to be chemicaly undrinkable coz if you drink it it may cause problems, you may not die by just refilling one and drink it but doin it as a habit will soon kill yah little by little
Mostly, they just want you to buy more, but the plastic leaches chemicals into the water as the bottle starts to biodegrade. If it tastes like plastic, you are consuming those chemicals. Try not to buy bottled water labeled as "purified" or "enhanced" as its nothing more than chlorinated water, usually straight from the tap at the bottling company. Spring or steam distilled water is better for you.
I think they just want to cover themselves legally, just in case someone gets a little bacteria from refilling a bottle that they've been using for a long time, and tries to sue them.
I have a bottle of Kirkland Signature premium Drinking Water and no where does it say anything about refilling or not. By the way I refill mine with RO water from my home for 1 week and they get a new bottle. :)
because the PET bottles used are not for prolonged reuse as consumers may not wash after each use and with bacterial built up inside the bottle could lead to some health issues that the bottled water companies do not want to be responsible for... per attorney advice
Because they are disposable bottles. They want you to recycle because they can't clean plastic well enough once used but they can clean it up when they recycle it becaus eit is remelted.
