How do you make limeade?!

Question:

How do you make limeade?

When I was in Colombia, they would take whole limes, throw them in the blender with some sugar and water, grind, and then strain out the rinds leaving a tasty drink. I have tried unsuccessfully to recreate the same taste. Does anyone have the recipe or right ratios of ingredients to use? Am I missing an ingredient? They called it jugo de limon there.

Thanks!

I tried the following recipe tonight:
2 limes
1/2 cup sugar
4 cups water

Throw everything in the blender, blend, and strain. It was still pretty tart and I think it needs more sugar. Also, I wonder if using Key Limes would be better for taste. I don't know what variety of limes they had in Colombia. They just went and pulled them off their trees. I have a Mexican dwarf lime tree that will bear mature fruit in a month or so.

This is the closest I've gotten to authentic limeades; they're pretty refreshing and tasty, especially on a hot summer day. You can adjust the sugar accordingly - I'd start with 1/2 cup white sugar or Splenda and go up to 2/3 if you like it sweeter.

Here's what you'll need:
3 limes
2/3 cup white sugar (or Splenda)
1 quart cold water

Here's how to make it:
Cut your limes in half and squeeze the lime juice into a 2 quart pitcher. Add the sugar and stir until dissolved. Fill the pitcher with cold water, stir, and chill in refrigerator.

One lime to one and a half limes per glass, ice, water sugar. I think you just did not have enough limes. Try again and garnish glass with a slice of lime.

go to www.foodtv.com go to the search engine click the recipe and type limeade or whatever the name is
Me i'd place a cap full of concentrated lime juice with 1/4 cup of sugar and a quart of water, but then i saw you were in colombia so they may have something a bit different. the rinds leave an extra kick up taste so you may have to grind & strain them in a food processor & a pinch of salt may be needed too
