Why do water bottles have a "best if used by" date?!

Question:

Why do water bottles have a "best if used by" date?

Answers:
Heh, that is a very good question, especially since water doesn't spoil. However, bottled water is mandated by the FDA (as opposed to tap water, which is regulated by the EPA), so I would assume that has something to do with it.

they can start to taste bad. ever leave a bottle of water in your car or somewhere, only find it weeks later? did you drink it? it tastes like mildew.

bescaue i heard that the plastic gives water a bad taste after a while.

Because the FDA requires it on everything. That's all.

that means that it goes bad after that date.......its like an expiration date.......lol

now a requirement by the fda....also a clever mind game to make you drink things faster- you'll notice that EVERYTHING has a best by date.....i learned that in marketing class....everyone knows water can't go bad, but you'll drink it faster, or throw it out and buy new stuff if it's beyond the date on the bottle.
