Unpredictable milk?!

Question:

Unpredictable milk?

Sometimes when you buy milk it expires exactly on the date printed on the carton. Other times, it stays good for up to a week after that date on the carton...why is this?

My best guess is amount of hormones and antibiotics that the cows received combined with how well the milk is stored (how often it's taken out of fridge, left on table, amount of time it takes to get home from store etc.. . )
