Why do they drink the milk after they win the indy 500?

To lessen the idea that a hero drinks alcohol. So our youth will see it is good to drink milk, and not champagne. They used to drink champagne.
I am not sure when it started, in the 20's or 30's probably. The reason they drink it now is tradition and dairy farmer's paying the winner cash to drink it first.
It is possible that it is a midwestern farming state and milk is a natural drink in farming country.
