What is the white residue that is on my citrus juicer?!

Question:

What is the white residue that is on my citrus juicer?

I can't seem to get the brush far enough in to clean every part of it... so what is the white residue?

Answers:
Is it remnants of the pith (sp?) of the lemons/oranges? Or is it a liquid? Hmmm... maybe citrus leaves a starchy residue like potato? I don't know, I'd go with pith. Maybe soaking it in hot, hot bleachy water would be good, you'd at least kill any germs~
