Does drinking through a straw save your teeth from stains?!
Does drinking through a straw save your teeth from stains?
Does it? I think not in my opinion since it still actually touches your teeth if you think about it. But my friend told me drinking through a straw is the best way to prevent stains because using cups he said is like pouring acid all over your teeth.
Answers:
Yes, you are "reducing" it BUT not "eliminating" the sugar from still affecting your teeth.
By using the straw you are bypassing the direct contact the softdrink has when you swallow from a can or glass.
But unfortunately, the sugar and acids in softdrinks, over the years will still have a decaying effect on the teeth and will be responsible for degradation of the enamel and subsequent tooth loss in your later years.
very good site

yes it does
yes it does, it goes straight pass your teeth and protects the enamel on them and that prevents stains
Yes, it does help some. But you are still better off just drinking water =)
Well I have always had this idea and I thought it was stupid. But I did hear a dentist say on a TV program that if you must drink stuff that stains your teeth, drink it through a straw. As long as you don't swish it around in your mouth, it should only hit the back teeth or the back or your front teeth. It sounds reasonable!!!
It doesn't prevent stains no, but yes it does help a great deal especially with coffee
i agree with you drinking through a straw can still stain your teeth maybe not as much as it would from a cup but a straw would still stain the teeth
ummm..as far as i know that is actually worse for your teeth, or maybe just mouth in general-but that could just be because that's what my dentist told me after i had a root canal....good question!
It can help somewhat, but like the person above said- you are better off drinking water! Coffee and soft drinks harm your teeth more than anything!
However, drinking white tea can actually help! There have been a lot of commercials lately for white tea....this is an excerpt from an MSN health site....
"HOW CAN DRINKING TEA IMPROVE YOUR ORAL HEALTH?
Researchers have found that tea can significantly improve oral health. Drinking a cup or two between meals can prevent cavities and periodontal disease.
Researchers found that tea suppressed the growth of cavity causing microbes and interfered with the bacterias ability to stick to teeth."
and it also says this at the end in reference to straws....
"Adults come in with multiple cavities and they don’t understand why. We often ask about their Starbucks consumption. Even if you don’t put sugar in, drinking a coffee drink with milk is like bathing your teeth in sugar all day long (milk carbs). Using a straw is somewhat helpful. You need to brush at work between meals if you are drinking coffee drinks. "
Although the focus of the article is about white tea and it's health benefits, it has a lot of good info on other drinks and the damage they do to your teeth!
Doubtful, the liquid still pools up on your mouth.
Yes it does, it passes right by your teeth.
