Why does water have a shelf life?!

Question:

Why does water have a shelf life?

y does it say on a bottle of volvic..when the water goes off?

when its been in the volcano 4 thousands of years?

Answers:
I used to work for a company that sold bottled water, as well as water coolers. The water doesn't go bad, but if exposed to sunlight can get moldy, but that's not the reason for the expiration date.
The plastic container the water is bottled in breaks down over time and contaminates the water.

Gradual decomposition of the container the water is in.

Water doesn't have a shelf life, it's the plastic that has a shelf life. The plastic or other contaminants on the plastic can leach into the water after a while. That is why it has an expiration date.

The water itself doesnt go off however bottled water is often not bottled in sterile conditions so bacteria can grow in the bottles sometimes. Also sometimes chemicals in bottled mineral waters can sometimes break down the plastic the bottles are made from so plastics & chemicals from the plastic can leach into the water from the bottle.
But water doesnt go off.
(By the way I doubt the water actually comes from a volcano... its probably taken from the local water supply wherever its bottled)

Bottled water can get bacteria in it if it's stored in a hot area unopened.

all water has to go bad eventually for some reasons exept for fresh spring water. teqnically, the water we drink is so called dead because there are no more minerals in it so...

The microbes enter easily into water, when opened once. Otherwise too the cork or the closure doesnot ensure 100 percent air-tight. The viruses and bacterias which are of million variety and live in millions on your finger tip space, enters and contaminates the contents and hence the shelf life!
