If I am making 6 oz of espresso, how much milk do I add to make a latte? How much to add for cappuccino?

There are really good straightforward recipes on this site:

After reading this, I'd say one cup of hot milk to one shot of espresso for a latte' and equal parts of hot milk and strong coffee or espresso for cappuccino.

Mmmm mmmm. I could really go for some coffee right about now...

http://www.ehow.com/howMake a 1 1/2 oz. espresso, leaving enough water in the espresso machine to steam some milk. (See "How to Make an Espresso" in the Related eHows section.)
2Step TwoPut espresso in a 5-oz. or larger cup so that you have room for the milk.
3Step ThreeSet espresso machine to steam.
4Step FourFill a stainless-steel carafe with 3 oz. cold milk and insert the steam nozzle.
5Step FivePlace nozzle halfway down in milk and leave it in milk for 45 to 60 seconds, or until the milk is hot and there's enough foam for your preference.
6Step SixAdd 1 1/2 oz. steamed milk to the cup of espresso.
7Step SevenSpoon some foamed milk onto the top.
8Step EightIf you like, sprinkle with ground chocolate, cinnamon or nutmeg. _1852_make-caffe-latte.html

1 proper espresso shot is 1.5oz, so you have 4 espresso shots there.

It's common to have a 12oz latte with 2 shots, or a 16 oz latte with 2 shots or more, but I would NOT recommend having any less than 16oz of milk with your latte.

Start with 16oz of steamed ot heated milk, add your shots & taste; if its too strong, add more milk until you're happy with it. I would imagine you'd end up with about 20oz of milk with your espresso, but start with 16oz & add from there, according to your personal taste.

I once had a quad-shot latte (4 shots, and I had to get a 20 oz, becasue it was so strong, and I order 2 shots in my 12oz or 16 oz lattes.

Most common system:
12 oz latte = 1 or 2 espresso shots
16oz latte = (1shot=weak coffee flavor) 2 or 3 shots
20oz latte = 2 (average taste), 3 (strong) or 4 espresso shots (bold coffee taste)

Hope I could help ya' out, but I think I may have just made it all confusing! I'm so sorry if I confused you!!

:o) Happy coffee drinking! :o)

It's really a matter of your own tastes. Generally a Latte has a little more than twice as much milk as a cappuccino and no foam. Many people (like me) like caps with very little milk (called "dry") and a lot of foam. If you plan on steaming the milk (which I hope you are, otherwise you end up with espresso and milk,) steam enough milk to fill the glass, as much of the steaming will turn the milk to foam if you're making a cappuccino and if you go for a latte you'll need almost that much milk anyway. Actually, you really should almost fill whatever container you're steaming the milk in regardless of what you're making, since you might scald the milk if you use too little and that just tastes nasty.

When you are working as a barista at a cafe you have different sizes of coffee cups:
short 8 ounces 1 to 1 1/4 ounce of espresso

tall 12 ounces 2 ounces of espresso

grande 16 ounces 2 ounces of espresso

Latte Macchiato: Pour steamed milk to 1/2 inch from top of cup top with peak of foamed milk them pour espresso through milk leaving a telltale marking.

Wet Cappuccino: First foam and steam milk. set pitcher aside pour espresso. Pour steamed milk into cup and hold back foam with a spoon...leave 1/4 inch at top of cup...then with spoon add the foam....now. dust with chocolate powder cinnamon or nutmeg.

I hope this helps...the secret is the size of the cup you are serving the latte or cappuccino...the smaller the cup the less milk you need ...the bigger the cup steam more milk and foam....let me know if you need more help....I used to work at a coffee shop ....miss it too it was great fun...serving and tasting the variety of drinks....try making one over ice for the summer and also buy a syrup that is flavored for an extra treat like hazelnut or caramel....see ya!
