Question about Coca Cola?!
Question about Coca Cola?
Ok, we all know Coke is bad for you and I hate it. Anyway, I've been wondering if there is a correlation between "Coca Cola" and "Cocaine". I have heard this somewhere before and thats why I am asking. If anyone knows if this is true, then feel free to enlighten me. Thanks!

Native cultures have used coca leaves in chewed and brewed forms for thousands of years for social and religious occasions. In 1860, cocaine was isolated from all the other chemicals in the coca leaf, and a pure form of cocaine was extracted. The drug readily dissolves in water, allowing users to dissolve it directly into soft drinks. Injecting cocaine results in an intense rush in fifteen to thirty seconds, while drinking it results in a milder, yet longer lasting, stimulation thirty to forty-five minutes after ingestion. Both these methods of using cocaine popularized the drug in the United States in the early 1900s.
It was not uncommon to mix your cocaine with a soft drink. No one knew how dangerous it was then. Cocaine was used in wines and soft drinks such as Coca Cola. Cocaine was widely used until it was outlawed by the Harrison Act in 1914 during the temperance movement. 2One of the reasons why it was used in soft drinks? So people drinking to soda would become addicted to it and therefore buy more. (Hmm... maybe why they use caffeine in them today).2

yea, back in the day, i think like the 30's, it was actually made with cocaine. but as far as i know, you can't feel the effects of cocaine unless you snort it...i don't think drinking it can do anything. but yea, it's not in coke anymore.
no, this is the most ridicules thing i've evr heard
no. that was an old rumor that was put to rest a long time ago.
Yep haha, it used to be a main ingredient.
yes. Cocaine was in the original coca cola recipe. Not a lot but it was there for quite sometime before people started to realize what Cocaine actually did to your body, then they took it out.
When Coke was first made it contained cocaine http://www.snopes.com/cokelore/cocaine.a...
Yes when Coke was originally introduced to the public it had cocaine in it....was the new thing and not yet illegal. Later when studies showed the potential hazards of cocaine and it was made illegal...coke dicontinued using it in its soft drink and is now the wonder ful nasty product we drink today when pepsi is not available
back in the 1800's coca-cola was used as a type of medicine... used to have cocaine in it. there are rare signs back then then would advertise it as a drug
a long time ago, Coke used a small amount of coke in their soda. They quit doing that in the 40s? 50s? somewhere through there since ya know, its illegal. now its been replaced.
Didja know coke is green when it is 1st produced before they add the coloring?
Coke can also be used to get rid of rust... drop a rusty nail into a glass of coke, let it sit for a day then look at the nail.
=)
Yes, when coca cola was first made one of it's main ingredients was cocaine. I saw a show all about it on the food network once.
Back in the day when coca-cola was first made it did contain a small amount of cocaine for energy boost.
actually there is i heard that a long time ago coke was actually made with some cocaine...
Coca-cola used to have cocaine in it, and it got its name from the "coca plant" which is where cocaine comes from.
That was back in the early 1900s when people thought cocaine was good for you. So it's ok.
when coke was first made it had cocaine in it and was sold as a medicine
well it can have the same effects but i know it doesn't have cocaine in it.
I Believe It's True, I Heard The Same Thang.
the very first coke did have some cocaine in it because it was bought and sold as a medicine back then not a drink.
No. Coca~Cola doesn't have cocaine in it. But its probably strong because it was first made to be a cold medicine but the maker accidently put carbonated water in it instead of whatever makes medicine. I had to do a report on it a few years ago. 'Originally intended as a patent medicine when it was invented in the late 19th century by John Pemberton, Coca-Cola was bought out by businessman Asa Griggs Candler, whose marketing tactics led Coke to its dominance of the world soft drink market throughout the 20th century' (taken from wikipedia) in 1985 though they attempted to change to formula.
I know that when it was first made it did have a trace of cocaine in it but now it does not. (1800's)
I think some people think its strong because it does not have the sugar content like Pepsi which is sweeter.
Hope this helps.
