Was Coca-Cola really made with cocaine when it was introduced??!

Question:

Was Coca-Cola really made with cocaine when it was introduced??

People are trying to tell me that, but I don't belive them.

Answers:
Yes, back in the late 1800's. Cocaine, heroin, and morphine were used to treat all kinds of ailments like headaches, stomachaches, cough, even morning sickness in pregnant women. Coca-Cola was originally sold at fountains in drugstores as a digestive aid and cure all drink.

So i guess your short answer is yes. :)

Yes, It was first made as an elixir and given out by doctors, same as Dr. Pepper. Cocaine was not illegal at the turn of the century and earlier. You could even buy Marijuana in tobacco shops.

yes

yea it was used as medicne

It really was. It was a "medicinal" drink.

Cocaine wasn't outlawed until early in the 1900s - up until that point it was a "miracle" drug/plant/whatever.

Yes, it is true. It had cocaine in it.

It's true. It was billed as a 'tonic' - a health beverage. To this day, cocaine (or at least the pharmaceutical form of it) is still used in hospitals and doctor's offices for medical purposes. I just had some from a doctor when he fixed my broken nose.

It certainly was. Cocaine was contained in numerous over-the-counter tonics sold in pharmacies during the 19th century. The US had an epidemic of cocaine addiction before people finally realized what was happening and cocaine was outlawed. I believe it was around the 1890s or turn of the century when cocaine was removed from Coca-Cola. The formula for Coca-Cola is a closely guarded secret. But around 1980 or so, I bought a bottle of Coca-Cola syrup from a pharmacy, which was sold for medicinal purposes. (It came in a bottle with blue lettering, not the familiar red lettering.) It's medicinal use is for settling upset stomachs. The ingredients list was more complete than that on the usual soft drink. One of the ingredients listed was "coca leaf (with the cocaine removed)". Though we'll never know for sure what the secret ingredients are in Coca-Cola, this suggests that the soft drink product possibly still contains extracts from coca leaf, but with the cocaine taken out.

yes it was. coca-cola was originally produced as a herbal tonic for all sorts of ailments and it included coca leaves as part of the recipe. however it was sold out of a pharmacy and not a vending machine.

Why yes it was! It was know for giving you a little bit of a lift! It was "a secret mixture called Merchandise No. 5," a mixture "containing the tonic properties of the wonderful coca plant and the famous cola nut."

Ha ha! Little did they know (or did they?) it was actually giving you a little bit of a high and a little bit of an addiction. At the time, Coke REALLY was it.

Yes, a very small amount though. I thought it was the cocaine that gave it the name coca-cola, but actually that was from the Cocoa tree or whatever plant they used to make it. There actually wasn't a whole lot of cocaine in there, just enough to make a difference.

i'm pretty sure it's true. thats why it used to be so addicting.
