Where does the caffeine in soda come from?!

Question:

Where does the caffeine in soda come from?

I know it used to come from kola nuts, but now most sodas use artificial flavorings instead. Is the caffeine lab created or extracted from a plant? (I bought this energy drink with 'natural caffeine' and it made me wonder)

Answers:
soda does not naturally have caffeine. it is added in. where it comes from depends on the company. natural caffeine doesn't necessarily make it good for you. if it is in large quantities or a strong form it could make your heart beat irregularly.

The syrup.

some plants may contain caffeine in them naturally (coffee beans anyone?), However the large part of caffeine in sodas is added in artificially.

In coke it is still from the kola nut. Drinks like Mt. Dew use caffeine chemical.

yes.. it is extracted from a plant..its form is a colorless liquid thats transparent in other ingredients...caffeine is a substance thats produced by plant chemistry by the sun..thus is released by heated water, soluable caffeine, the color of caffeine is yellow 100 prof thus fermination makes it darker. caffeine is alkalilne but if you use cholrinated water the ph is more alkaline which gives caffeine that nasty taste... even Marijana has caffeine in it, in tea form water substance meaning boiling water...
