Is water a diuretic and if so, how much more water should I drink to compensate?!


Question:

Is water a diuretic and if so, how much more water should I drink to compensate?

Hello I am worried because I drink 4 litres of water every day. But I have recently learned that water is a diuretic so hoiw much MORE water should I be drinking to compensate for the diuretic effect of the 4 litres?

And if the answer is an extra 2 litres, then surely this would ALSO have a diuretic effect so I should really drink even more water to compensate for the further diuretic effect of the extra 2 litres.

4 litres a day is fine. You don't ned to drink any more.

Sounds like you're obsessing a bit. Ask yourself if you're making any sense. By definition a diuretic is something that reduces the amount of water in the body. Water does not reduce water volume in your body, it increases water. Since you're drinking a large volume of water, your body discharges what it doesn't need.

Now I am not joking here, if you drink lots and lots of water a day u can actually kill yourself as it has something to do with diluting and washing away sodium body salts needed ro sustain life.

if u are a girl and are not very big then u could get into trouble quixker than a normal sized person.

water is NOT a diuretic. By definition a diuretic causes the body to get rid of water. Yes water will make you urinate but that is the body doing what is natural. Getting rid of extra water and impurities. A diuretic will make you urinate if you have extra or not.
4 liters a day? that should be good

A diuretic is something that causes your body to expell more water than it does normally . Caffeine and alcohol are examples. Water does not cause a chemical reaction within your body that causes it lose more water. It simply does not, so you don't need to worry about that.
But if you drink alot of water and Don't expell it, than That can cause problems.

Hi there. Water is not that much of a diuretic, 4 litres is right up at the top end of what you should be drinking - probably a litre too much. DO NOT drink more than that, it is counter productive. If you drink other liquids, such as tea, then it is already definitely too much! The other guy who warned you is quite correct, that amount of water every day will flush vitamins and minerals out of your system too quickly and hamper digestion, so please look after yourself and leave it be.

Hi! Drinking 4 litres of water a day is fine. I understand what you are saying, but water itself is not a diuretic. It will flush toxins out, however, & your body will eliminate any excess water, along with those toxins, quickly. I drink 4 litres daily, & it`s only done me good. I have much better skin than before I was drinking this ammount. Water is one of the best things you can drink, so keep on drinking it.
