What was coke originally used for?!

Question:

What was coke originally used for?

I heard it was a different colour, what colour was it?
And what did they originally use it for? Wasn't it originally a detergent or something?

Answers:
green, it was a cure all. it had cocaine in it and people used it for everything..it was acid enough and even now to clean a lot of things..even tarnish...but the cocaine was used to fight fatigue, depression, etc etc you name it and people did get addicted to it as there was no laws prohibiting it...sources..the History Channel

it was a health tonic orig.

The original coca-cola had small amounts of cocaine in it, so I'm sure you could think of a few uses for it.

Coke was originally intended as a patent medicine when it was invented in the late 19th century. There was a belief that carbonated water was good for the health.

The answers above are all correct. I believe the detergent you're thinking of is the fact that it can be used to get axle grease out of clothing. Just pour in a can with your regular detergent and your mechanic's coveralls (or whatever has the grease in it) will come out clean.

it used to have cocai*e
