Chinese tea?!

Question:

Chinese tea?

I have been frequenting Chinese restaurants in my town for several years, and a lot of them seem to have a similar tasting tea. It is wonderful, and tastes different than anything I have ever had before. I have asked several of the restaurateurs what kind of tea they are serving, and the only answer they give is Lipton. The Lipton tea I have tried does not taste like what I have had in the restaurants. Does anyone know what type of tea they might be serving? Could it be some kind of Chinese tea? Or is there something they are adding to the Lipton, possibly? Any info anyone has would be appreciated. I would love to be able to enjoy this tea at home as well as when dining out.

Answers:
I happen to co-own a Chinese Restaurant called the Corner Wok here in Wisconsin. My partner is Chinese and his parents are the cooks. So here is the answer you are looking for: Oolong Tea which consists of boiling black tea leaves in water. Some Chinese restaurants may do something else to the water and some may not. Actual Chinese people leave the leaves and some twigs in the tea as they drink it for a more potent taste. Most Chinese restaurants take these out for customers. So if you are looking for this tea the best bet is to go to a nutrition store or an asain food market and look for Oolong Tea or Black Tea. They are one in the same. Green Tea is not the answer you are looking for. That is nothing more than an Americanized version of Chinese tea, like Taco Bell is to Mexican food.

green tea

Oolong Tea.

i think chinese tea is specail leaves boiled in water.

You are probably drinking Green Tea. Green tea can be bought at any grocery store and it's cheap. Buy some green tea and see if it tastes the same as the tea at the Chinese restaurant.

Cheers

You MIGHT be thinking of Green Tea!

Below is a site that might show you the different types of Chinese tea's available!

Enjoy!

Lipton tea does not have any black tea in it and that is why I do not like it. But there are different kinds of teas with other flower or fruit flavors added to it. I like pomegranate or jasmine tea. Oolong is definitely a Chinese tea.

they buy this tea in bulk . it could be Lipton tea for restaurants. If you want you can ask them to sell some to you . you would not want to buy the bulk about 5 lbs or so cause tea dose go bad.

I personally love Temple of Heaven China Green Tea.
