Cup of coffee vs regular cup?!

Question:

Cup of coffee vs regular cup?

My mother says that a cup of coffee is the same amount as a measuring cup. I don't think so....a "cup" of coffee is WAY less. Am I right and why is it like that?

Answers:
The size of coffee cups vary. On the average, plan on 5 ounces per cup. If you buy a Mr. Coffee coffee maker, the instructions state 5 ounces per cup. A regular cup of liquid is 8 ounces.

A cup of coffee is usually one teaspoon not a measuring cup. This works out as approximately 5 gram.

A typical cup of coffee is between 6 - 8 oz which is around 1 cup measured

A teacup is usually smaller in volume than that of a standard measuring cup. Mine measure 3/4 cup. A coffee cup is usually a little bigger, about 1 cup. A coffee mug is bigger than that, between 1.5 and 2 cups. These have no relation to the amount of coffee served in restaurants, which is more like 1/2 cup.

wow, interesting q. I think in most restaurants, etc, a cup of coffee is 8 oz, but I like a big ole mug of joe.
