Is it true?!

Question:

Is it true?

is it true you can drink "too much" water, and that you can drown yourself?? and how much water would you have to drink??

Answers:
A woman recently managed to kill herself in a water drinking contest. Its called water toxicity. It was in the news a couple weeks ago.

false all false.

i dont think so... drowning implies inhalation of water, not overindulgence of water.

a woman who drank too much in a competioin passed awy becase of sweeling to her brain

I don't know if you drown but too much water shuts down vital organs and you can die. A woman just died last month in a water drinking radio contest. I think she drank 13 litres = 32 cups trying to win a Wii Video console. She lost the contest and died hours later. The winner was ill but not even hospitalized.

I've been told that you shouldn't drink more than a pint of water (594ml) per hour - water carries toxins (chemical buildup) out of your body by flushing out your system, larger amounts of water than that will cause too much toxic activity in your body - in the case of the woman who died it wasn't the amount of water she drank, it was the time period in which she drank it. Still very sad though...

There must also be a point at which your body can't process the water quickly enough for you to empty your system, but I imagine that's a lot!

haven't heard of that one yet, but it's probably not true, who do you know that would drink water till they drowned. they'd probably spit it out or throw up first.

It just happened a couple weeks ago a woman drown herself after drinking 7 quarts of water.

i dun tink so..if u drink too much of water..ur stomach will feel veri veri full..a person have to drink atleast 7-8 glases of water each day...

You won't drown, but you will die from water poisoning (or water intoxication as it is more correctly known). For a person on a low-sodium diet wikipedia says that 1/2 gallon (1.8 Litres) can be fatal if drunk rapidly because it shocks the brain's electrolyte sensor (the area that detects the level of salt in the body).
