Why does mentos and diet coke react?!

Question:

Why does mentos and diet coke react?

ive always wondered

Answers:
Because the sugar inside and out the mento can react with liquid samples and diet coke has no sugar and when you put sugar inside diet coke it fizzes up.

its thesugar you can get the same effect with a spoon of sugar and pretty much any fizzy drink.

This was on Myth Busters!
some thing to do with the CO2 in the fizzy gathering in the tiny pores of the sweet ,,,,can't remember the rest ,, I think they have web site you might be able to check there.
Sorry for the lack of detail.

well mentos have tiny indentations all over them which allow the bubbles to form and rise to the surface because there is so many indentations this happens very quickly causing that reaction try putting a spoon of sugar or salt in it (do it outside trust me)

Mentos contains a chemical known as ARABIC GUM (this is the ingredient that makes the mint "chewy"). This ingredient causes the surface tension of the water molecules to break even more easily, releasing more carbon dioxide gas at an astounding rate! .....The gas causes pressure to rapidly build inside the bottle which thrusts the soda upwards in a wonderful fountain-like BLAST!

It is a chemical reaction. If you can find the Mythbusters episode where they go through and examine why this happens it will tell you more. They actually went through and tried different types of sodas and certain mentos to see what combinations they could get. Site below is a link to some cool reactions.

try youtube.com, put in a search for mythbusters, mentos experiment.
