Does coffee really stunt children's growth?!

Question:

Does coffee really stunt children's growth?

I always assumed this was something the adults in my life said when they didn't want me to have any coffee, but I am curious if it is fact or myth.

Not that I will allow my kids to drink coffee, or even soda, but I was reading a story where the author said a child was raised on coffee and didn't reach their full height potential. I just thought it was funny...

If they drink lots of coffee and not much else, their growth will be stunted and other health problems will emerge as well.

Some coffee added to a normal diet will not stunt growth.

No, coffee doesn't stunt growth, but I'm sure it makes kids hyper and maybe stain the teeth. Other than that, it's not going to hurt them. I would avoid it anyway. I drank hot tea as a little girl and it never stunted my growth or ruined my teeth or anything. With all the kids nowadays with ADD, I would avoid anything that can overstimulate them. That includes soft drinks and lots of sugar to.

It must be a myth, cause I was raised on coffee, and grew up to be taller than my parents.

Big myth.

Our parents didn't want hyperactive kids ruining the house.

ST

No - they just want to hog the coffee. Total myth.

i was given coffee with a lot of cream & sugar as a baby & it I wish i could say my growth had been stunted a little. i also gave my daughter coffed with cream & sugar she is now 21 & still loves coffee. It did not hurt her a bit.

my mom always let me drink coffee and pop - i 5'8" and a girl so im thinking that it didnt hurt me

You need to get out and travel a little.
If Coffee stunted growth the Chinese would be taller than Americans. This is an old wives tale and probably some parents don't want their kids to get anymore caffeine than necessary.

i dont see how but break down coffee....
caffine?

No
Poor eating habits will though.

FYI
Coffee has been used instead on medication for hyperactive kids.
Stimulants affect hyper kids the opposite as how it would affect an average person.
