Keep a plastic bottle with cap on my bed stand, tastes funny.

it may be that the plastic from the bottle is disintergratin into the water and causing that funny taste thats why u shouldnt reuse bottles
when u buy bottled water it has a expirary date for that reason

You can not reuse plastic water bottles due to leaching of carcinogenic chemicals from the plastic.
First you need to know what type of plastic are you using. PVC is the best one. If you use made from mexico or any other place then it is not pvc. That is those 1gallon portable bottles. If you are talking about the ones you buy from store shelf, then are you drinking it with your mouth at the cap. Cause that will get stink also. You need to hot wash the bottle each time. And the 3rd thing what kind of water are you refilling it with. Tap, Filter, R.O filter, store front refills. That will cause the water to chang also. But the main thing is to hot wash it each time. I own a bottle water plant and a filter install company.
