How long are coffee grounds good for?!

Question:

How long are coffee grounds good for?

I bought a bag of starbucks ground coffee. It says on the bag store in an airtight container for no longer than 1 week. I mean come on, the bag has lasted me months and it still tastes ok. Is there anyway I can tell if it is stale? I mean its ok for me, but if I have guests I don’t want to have crappy coffee.

Answers:
It is at its best being consumed within a week. However, it won't hurt to keep it longer than that. Just be sure to close the bag tightly or put the coffee in an airtight container.

just try it and see for yourself

As far as I'm concerned, its stale a day after it is ground. Whole bean coffee goes stale after 1 week.
The person below is correct on many aspects but beans are not good after a week, I roast my own coffee and have found this to be the case.

throw that coffee out! coffee ground IS stale after a day! coffee instantly starts losing it's fresher the moment you grind it. if you are using starbucks ground coffee and putting in the fridge, DON"T DO IT! when coffee is ground it has a chemical aspect to where it picks up the other flavors and odors it's around, i.e. pickled beets, mustard, mint, etc. Taking this in consideration, it's better to buy whole bean coffee and ground as you go. You don't need to buy an expensive $100 coffee grinder to do this. I have a grinder that I have had for over 10 years that I bought for $20 and it works great~ the blade have a life-time warranty. you will find that you enjoy your coffee more if you spend a little extra time into it.

P.S. Not all whole bean coffee goes stale after a week! That's too general. You have to know when the roasting date is. That's critical. After roasting, the ideal drinking period is 12 to 72 hours.
