What is the difference between soccer and football?!

Question:

What is the difference between soccer and football?

Answers:
Football is a generic term to include soccer, rugby (football) and Gaelic (football).
Its correct term should be Association Football

it's the same thing, only soccer is an American term.

Soccer is what the Americans call football. In real terms, there's no difference.

Best wishes, J

its the same game. its just the dumb yanks that insist on calling it soccer. they think that American football is football, even though its just a poor excuse for rugby. with padding............*****'s.......

One and the same.

Football is a term that refers to whichever ball sport is the most popular in that country.

Americans say Football when they mean Gridiron.
British say Football when they mean Soccer or Association Football.
Irish say Football when they mean Gaelic Football.
Australians say Football when they mean Rugby League.

I always find the last one funny since in rugby league you're not supposed to use your foot on the ball! (I'm Aussie by the way, so I'm allowed to take the p!ss)

BTW I edited this after I spoke to my (Scottish) husband when he told me the word soccer is derived from the term 'Association Football'. The term soccer is commonly used in the USA and Australia to mean what most countries call football. So what bearbrain said is correct. Most people who have answered have only said what is known in their own country.

In football, as the Americans named it, is permitted touch the ball with the arms and hands, although in soccer is an illegal act. As matter of fact, what the Americans call soccer is the football in the whole world ( except USA )

The football in the u.s. and a. (Borat slang) is
men disguised as superman. They have to protect their heads with helmets

America

Why is this in non-alcoholic drinks?

the spelling is different of tha term...

the ball shape.round for soccer oval for football

Well, the balls are different. Also, in soccer you are not allowed to pick up the ball unless you're the goalie.
