Are there any health risks associated with diet drinks?
I am 21 and enjoy drinking any form of sugar-less diet drinks (e.g. pepsi max, coke zero, diet coke/pepsi, diet solo ect) in at some times large amounts, and my mum tells me that i drink too much but i don't feel that it can do me any harm. I was just enquiring as to whether drinking too much of these drinks containing phenylalanine has any effects on the body or whether it isn't worth worrying about. Thanks.

My friend is a dentist and she thinks that people don't know enough about the effects of all carbonated drinks on the body(including sparkling water). The co2 gas used to make the bubbles changes the body chemistry for a while when consumed and your body loses calcium, so drinking fizzy drinks over time ( and it only takes 4 or more cans a week!) weakens your bones and teeth even if you eat lots of food with calcium in it because the effect of the drinks is quite strong. As for the effects of artificial sweetener in large doses, and it sounds like you consume a lot in these drinks, then just put phenylaline into any search engine or ask any healthcare proffessional about your level of consumption and you'll get plenty of reasons to stop drinking this stuff .I used to drink at least 3 cans a day,way more in summer and found it hard to wean myself off them but honestly they are just not worth the effects on your body (and the dental bills )
Apparently despite the fact that there is no sugar, the caffiene can affect how you body absorbs calcium and therefore you are doing damage over time and puttnig yourself at risk of osteoperrosis in the future.
Any carbonated beverage has the effect of making your body acidic, when you want it to be alkaline to ward off disease and infection.
