What ever happened to 3-liter soft drink bottles?!

Question:

What ever happened to 3-liter soft drink bottles?

They seem to have disappeared from shelves at some point in the last 10 or so years. I'm sure the industry decided 2-liter would be cheaper and more efficient, but the 3 liter was often a better deal on sale (nowadays, "a two-liter for $1.75 with my plus card? I wonder if it works on $5 hot dogs at events... $4.85, here we come!).

Anyways, some kind of time frame and details would be appreciated. Thanks.

I used to work at CVS and over the summer we would always get 3-liter bottles of some generic cola for $1, so they're not completely dead. Other than that, I'm not much help. My guess would be their weight (to heavy to be convenient) combined with the fact that companies realized they could make more selling 20oz and 2-liters contributed to their disappearance.

What they did to many products such as T paper, tuna and Pop.. they reduced the size so they could charge us the same price. Then we would not feel as though the prices had gone up..

LOL.. it is a phycology move on all of us... lol

I agree with you. I guess the 3L was just too heavy and unwieldy, and doesn't fit well into today's refridgerator compartments. I only see 3L at some stores for the store brand, Acme Markets and I think Food Lion has it too.

I thought the 3-liter bottle always took up to much space. A great Idea if you were having a party, but for family use no such a good idea. They went the way of the glass bottle.

We have 3-Liter bottles of Silver Spring brand here in Maine. They come in Grape, Fruit Punch, Orange, and Ginger Ale. They cost $1.19. But they don't have diet. Wherever you are, you're also paying more than our "3/3.00; $1.29, or 4 cases of 12 cans for $10. (sale) than we do.

I think WEIS MARKETS and GIANTS still have the 3 liter size bottles.call and ask them .or call your local food store.

I live in Texas and see more 3 liters than 2liters. Sometimes 2liters are non-existent...guess it depends on the region and demand. Everything is big in Texas ya know.

what do you mean i see them all the time. in mountain dew pepsi nad many other knids to! keep ur eyea open there out there!

America got too fat and lazy to pick up a 3-litre bottle

Here in Los Angeles there are 99 cent stores all over the place and they carry a wide variety of a brand called Shasta. You can get Diet Cola, Cola, Lemon Lime, Orange, Grape, Root Beer, and maybe a few others. There is a deposit, I think we pay about $1.15 per bottle.
