What is the secret to making a good milkshake?!

Question:

What is the secret to making a good milkshake?

How do restaurants make such good milkshakes? I love milkshakes, but they are never as good at home. I use good ice cream and milk and vanilla, but they never come out as thick or good. Do you need to use whole milk (I usually drink skim) or is there a secret ingredient?

Answers:

Sometimes, they will taste even better!

try to use only whole milk and white cream which must be very cold!good luck

A good machine. A professional one that costs around $7000 would definitely help. That's why the milkshake you taste at the cafes are different than yours.

if your your milkshake dont bring the boys to the yard then you need a different recipe
//shake it well //

Try to soften your ice cream before hand. Then blend it without using anything else. Your shake is gonna come out very creamy and smooth.

if you don't get as thick as you like it, add more ice cream!!!

you dont have to use whole milk, what's important is that they milk is ICE COLD! it really needs to be very cold to make the milk shake good. Also, use vanilla bean ice cream (like bryers) instead of just regular vanilla--the flavor will be much better. use more icecream than milk for the thickest shake.
here's my recipe for a vanilla shake

2 scoops vanilla bean ice cream
1/2 cup vanilla low fat/fat free yogurt
1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
1 tsp. honey
Ice cold milk (try 1% or 2%)

combine ice cream, yogurt, honey & vanilla in a blender. slowly add milk until desired consistency is reached.
