Starbucks? Blame the bean or the roast ?!

Question:

Starbucks? Blame the bean or the roast ?

Many of my friends think that Starbucks` coffee tastes so heavy like its burned. And also their CARAMEL MACCHIATO is just only CARAMEL LATTE with lots of syrup added!!! Should we blame the baristas, coffee bean or roast?

Answers:
both...
the beans & the roast both make the taste. Sometimes baristai are blamed...
I know that's their way to do the macchiato but it's not right anyway. But the real machiato is an espresso with a teaspoon of milk in it, and a small "spot" of foam on top of the crema traditionally to show the beverage has milk in it -a "marked" espresso. While Starbucks do it with a lot of milk & little espresso(I gues half milk & half coffee).

Probably the roast, because their beans are way darker than they should be (more black than rich brown).
And your friend is right about the macchiato- real macchiato is a shot of strong espresso with just a dab of milk foam, and not 1/2 milk and half coffee.

Do your friends check to see what type of coffee they're getting first? The House Blend and Verona are mild whereas the French Roast/Sumatra has a "heavier" taste. The taste depends upon a lot of things including the type of bean, roast etc.

Secondly, the caramel macchiato is actually a vanilla latte with caramel topping. Macchiato means "to mark." That's why the baristas pour the espresso on top of the foam. The quality of the macchiato depends upon how well maintained the espresso machine is and the skill of the barista (some may not steam the milk properly or follow Starbucks standards in general).

The Starbucks macchiato is not half coffee and half milk. I would say that it's 95% milk + syrup and 5% coffee. Those espresso shots are really really small. I'm not sure if you've tried an espresso shot by itself but it can taste quite strong for those who are not accustomed to it. What will make a macchiato taste bitter is the espresso shot pulled over 23 seconds. The longer the shot takes -- the more bitter and burnt the drink will taste. So pay attention to the barista.

You and your friends need to learn more about coffee. This way you can avoid the roasts/beans/taste you don't like AND you can send the drink back if it's not made to standard!
