Steaming milk for cappucino?!

Question:

Steaming milk for cappucino?

I received an espresso/cappucino machine. I've practiced a little bit at steaming/frothing milk, and now I can do that OK.

A friend of mine only drinks soy milk, and I've tried to steam that. The results are a complete mess. Does anyone have a way to successfully steam soy milk? OR, does anyone know of a good substitute?

Answers:
I work in a coffe shop, steamig soy milk is really tricky, some times it just wont rise, other times it will, make sure your milk is really cold and really freash, that might help. but if it doesn't try some other brands some work really well, usually its the creamier thicker smoother kinds, if all fails try adding just a touch of corn starch to a small amount of the cold soy milk.. not too much or you'll make it gross, then add the rest, then steam and hope fully this will work! you also might want to try this same thing with almond milk, I know it works with homemade but I'm not sure about store brands,
good luck!
happy cafination!
oh yeah also some brands of soy milk don't like coffee others do, some are bound to curdle, try a few kinds, almond milk won't curdle.

Are you using the shelf stable? those are a little different to deal with than the kind from th refrigerator. I tried using shelf stable in my coffee once, it curdled! I only buy refrigerated now.Maybe just heat it in the microwave.
