Why does our NEW coffeemaker make coffee that tastes like plastic?!

Question:

Why does our NEW coffeemaker make coffee that tastes like plastic?

I bought my husband a brand new KitchenAid coffeemaker for a gift and he says that it makes the coffee taste like plastic. He ran coffee through it as well as water a couple of times and it still doesn't taste good. Are we missing something simple here? Or a way to set up a new one? I'm not a coffee drinker so I don't know anything about coffeemakers, but he won't use it and my (NOT CHEAP) gift is going to waste. :o( Can you help us? Thank you!!!

Answers:
run with 3 cups of vinegar and the rest water through coffee maker. follow with plain water should be fine.

call the consumer # on the back of the box. i bought one, and my husband says it's fine. it might just be a coating on the plastic.

most coffee pots (well allot) do when they are new, sometimes they even make a smell like burnt glue. i would give a week or two

Most plastic is not designed to handle hot temperatures.
Eventhough a coffee maker does not melt with hot water, the water will break down the chemicals in the plastic.

That also goes for heating food in a microwave using a plastic container.

I agree with MOMO >>>>> vinegar but follow with lots of fresh water. Used vinegar 1 time and didn't flush well enough >>>> when milk was added it curdled LOL

They all do, you have to break them in..
