Question:

Is green tea Good for you?

I was just curious because I was drinking some today! My dad says it is...Jus tneed some more opinions.

Answers:
Yes! Apparently (I didn't actually research this, but I was told at a training day), cancer is not as prevalent in Asian countries as in other parts of the world, because of the amount of green tea Asian people drink. Apparently it's the antioxidants in the green tea that guard against cancer.

A 2006 study published in the September 13 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association concluded "Green tea consumption is associated with reduced mortality due to all causes and due to cardiovascular disease but not with reduced mortality due to cancer." The study, conducted by the Tohoku University School of Public Policy in Japan, followed 40,530 Japanese adults, ages 40-79, with no history of stroke, coronary heart disease, or cancer at baseline beginning in 1994. The study followed all participants for up to 11 years for death from all causes and for up to 7 years for death from a specific cause. Participants who consumed 5 or more cups of tea per day had a 16 percent lower risk of all-cause mortality and a 26 percent lower risk of cardiovascular disease than participants who consumed less than one cup of tea per day. The study also states, "If green tea does protect humans against CVD or cancer, it is expected that consumption of this beverage would substantially contribute to the prolonging of life expectancy, given that CVD and cancer are the two leading causes of death worldwide."[14] Article in the Denver Post

Yes it is, in large quantities. The beneficial effect comes from ingesting 500 mg minimum of ECGC. It's supposed to have anti-oxidants and boost metabolism, among other healthy effects.

The ready-made Snapple green tea has 55 mg per bottle. That's six bottles at 120 calories and a couple of dollars a bottle. Better luck maybe with the tea leaves. However you drink it, it's better for you than sodas!

yes it is...

The Chinese have known about the medicinal benefits of green tea since ancient times, using it to treat everything from headaches to depression. In her book Green Tea: The Natural Secret for a Healthier Life, Nadine Taylor states that green tea has been used as a medicine in China for at least 4,000 years.

Today, scientific research in both Asia and the west is providing hard evidence for the health benefits long associated with drinking green tea. For example, in 1994 the Journal of the National Cancer Institute published the results of an epidemiological study indicating that drinking green tea reduced the risk of esophageal cancer in Chinese men and women by nearly sixty percent. University of Purdue researchers recently concluded that a compound in green tea inhibits the growth of cancer cells. There is also research indicating that drinking green tea lowers total cholesterol levels, as well as improving the ratio of good (HDL) cholesterol to bad (LDL) cholesterol.

To sum up, here are just a few medical conditions in which drinking green tea is reputed to be helpful.

yep.uh huh .totally

Ya, drink up ;)

Green Tea does contain a few more antioxidants that black tea, but remember that tea, coffee and soda are all diuretics, meaning that they replace the water in your body. This is not a good thing on a large scale because your body is mostly water! So a general rule of thumb is that for every 8 oz of tea, coffee or soda, drink 8 oz of water. That way you will stay hydrated. No matter how much "good" the tea will do you, if your dehydrated, your in trouble.
