Anyone know if tea bags are often poor quality?!

Question:

Anyone know if tea bags are often poor quality?

I'm not a true tea connoisseur in the true sense of the word, but I do love drinking tea, and love trying different types, and learning about tea. I do know that loose leaf teas are more expensive and probably taste better since the leaves are still intact and your drinking the real thing.

But I still love tea bags because of the cost, convenience, and it still tastes great.

I've heard from some people that tea bags are poor quality and just the "remains" from when the real tea leaves are sold. Is there any truth to this? I'd like to think that some of the tea companies like Tazo or Celestial Seasonings just make the tea from whole leaves and package them in tea bags...but maybe they just purchase the "remains" and make them into tea bags.....What is the truth about tea bags? Thanks for answering..sorry it was a long question........

Answers:
This is pure speculation. You can rest assured that teabags contain full-sized leaves, ready to flavor your water. Teabags are items made for the generation that cannot deal with such trivial matters as organization, or cleanliness. Teabags are designed to be convenient for the person on the run. All of the quality of leaves, packaged nicely in a bag, string, and rectangular slip of paper.

Enjoy your tea.

A tea bag consists of two parts, the tea and the bag. The tea is brewed still inside the bag, making it easier to dispose of without a tea strainer.

The first tea bags were made from hand-sewn silk muslin bags and tea bag patents of this sort exist dating as early as 1903. First appearing commercially around 1904, tea bags were successfully marketed by tea and coffee shop merchant Thomas Sullivan of New York, who shipped his tea bags around the world. Modern tea bags are usually made of paper fiber.

A design of empty tea bag is available for consumers to fill with tea themselves. These are typically an open-ended pouch with a long flap. The pouch is filled with an appropriate quantity of leaf tea and the flap is closed into the pouch to contain the tea. The resulting tea bag combines the ease of use of a commercially-produced tea bag with the wider tea choice and better quality control of loose leaf tea.

A well-produced tea bag, with enough space for the tea to infuse properly, is a convenient alternative to loose leaves. On the other hand, because tea bags are often pre-filled, they may contain poor quality tea―small, dusty leaves from many different sources ('floor sweepings') which tend to release tannin more quickly, making the tea taste harsh.

my sister is a true tea drinker, she preffers lipton tea in the teabag, thats her favorite, i dont think its makes a difference if its in a bag or loose , its the actual brands that make the better taste. shes very fussy. but i love my tea too and i cant tell the difference between any brands, everyones taste is different, just drink what u think taste best, now i feel like a cup of tea.
from casey ... enjoy your tea!
