In the US, I think it is very weird to keep from stumbling on a carbonated beverage at some point. How old is this person?
Even the organic moms with hippy kids can't keep their kids out of the can all the time. And we have all gotten coke or ginger ale or 7up for the flu...
There is nothing wrong with it, just unlikely. They must have been avoiding it when they learned it could be so habit forming. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

It IS kind of odd that a person would never have had a soda at all, but I guess the preference itself isn't weird.
